Gorilla Gala 2010 Video Presentation by Daniel Taylor

Video presentation by Daniel Taylor for the ‘Gorilla Gala 2010’ organised by 'Gearing up for Gorillas'.

A wonderful time was had by all attending the Gorilla Gala held at the Carrington House Hotel, Bournemouth, Dorset on Saturday 8th May. Around 150 guests enjoyed the African drumming and the very exotic music of Kasai Masai. Mungo Jerry rounded off the evenings’ entertainment at around 1am.

An auction, silent auction and raffle attracted lots of interest, whilst Ian Redmond gave a compelling after dinner address on gorillas and their crucial role in keeping the tropical forests alive.

World premiere of a high-realist portrait of the Cross River Gorilla

Vancouver, BC, Canada - The first ever painting of a Cross River gorilla, Africa's most endangered primate, will be unveiled to the public for the first time on 19 October 2008, at the Mountain View Conservation and Breeding Centre, in Langley, BC, Canada.

The author of this unique portrait is Canadian artist Daniel Taylor, who travelled along with his wife Ginette to the jungle of south-western Cameroon's Lebialem Highlands, to learn more about this critically endangered species - with only 250 to 300 individuals left in the wild.

Cross River Gorillas: Who Will Save Them?

The gorilla stares out searchingly, a slight quiver on its lip, as it folds its fingers and holds its own hands. The image is strikingly real. But it's also a painting. Coquitlam resident Daniel Taylor worked for months, painstakingly recreating the critically threatened primate he encountered in Cameroon last year.

What he was painting were the very things that have led to the animal's near-extinction: the Cross River gorilla is the most critically endangered gorilla in the world - suffering from a shrinking habitat and poaching for its head and hands, which are valued as totems - but few are aware of its plight.

Saving gorillas, one print at a time!

Tracking the extremely elusive and endangered Cross River gorilla is an activity best done in silence. Daniel Taylor and his wife, Ginette, barely spoke as they took careful steps over treacherous ground in the jungle of southwestern Cameroon's Lebialem Highlands.

Led by a former poacher and accompanied by three or four other people, the Coquitlam couple was hoping to get an up-close look at the Cross River gorilla.
